Race for the Cure May 14th

The Philadelphia Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is celebrating the 16th anniversary of the Komen Race for the Cure® in Philadelphia. The festivities begin Mother’s Day, May 14, 2006 at Eakins Oval at the Philadelphia Art Museum.

For the past 16 years, the Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure® has been more than a 5K run/5K walk. It is a Mother’s Day tradition, with families, co-workers and best friends gathering together in the fight against breast cancer. Last year, the Race attracted over 125,000 people, with 40,000 participants helping to raise over $3 million.

The signature moment of the event will be the procession of over 4,000 survivors down the steps of the Art Musuem, marching triumphantly against a disease that will claim the lives of over 40,000 women this year alone.

The 16th Annual Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure® begins at 6:00 AM with a special Survivors’ breakfast at Eakins Oval and concludes around 12:00 PM. In addition to the 5K run and 5K walk, the morning’s events will also include a 1-mile Fun Walk, sponsor exhibitor booths with giveaways, motivating speeches from numerous officials and celebrities, family entertainment, prize drawings and award presentations. The women of CBS 3 Eyewitness News will be masters of ceremonies for the event.

The event is sponsored locally by CBS 3, AstraZeneca, Lilly Pulitzer, CIGNA, Wawa, Wissahickon Mountain Spring Water, UPN 57, KYW News Radio 1060, 94.1 FREE FM WYSP, 98.1 FM WOGL, 610 WIP, 1210 AM, and B101 FM.
