Dancing with a New Star

If my digital cable and DVR box manage to reboot themselves this evening, I will be recording Good Morning America tomorrow morning to find out which B- and C-list celebrities will be on the next season of Dancing with the Stars.* But at least one local pro has already been announced to be part of the new cast.

Brian Fortuna is based at Universal Dance Studios in Collingswood, NJ. He’s sliding into the tv version of DWTS right out of the tour which I saw so very recently.

And Brian’s studio was very well represented at the live show. Each DWTS tour performance starts with a competition of local amateurs, with the two finalist couples dancing for the trophy right after the show’s intermission. Here at the Wachovia Center, both finalist couples were from Universal Dance, and it actually became something of a running gag with the hosts. You see, the other local couples competing two couples themselves as being from “Gladwyne” or “Exton” or whatever town they actually lived in. But these folks (possibly coached in the fine art of product placement) identified their “home” as “Universal Dance Studios.”

Finally, one of the guys (Joey Lawrence? Drew Lachey? Maybe Drew) cracked a joke about how it sounded as if these folks must be sleeping on cots in the back room of the studio….

All memories and kidding aside, I hope Brian is able to dance and thrive during the run of the show. With the move from tour cast to TV cast, he seems already to have made the DWTS opportunity into a golden one.

* If my digital cable and DVR box do NOT manage to reboot themselves this evening, I will be a very sad girl.

    Hello Sherri,

I googled Brian Fortuna and came across what you wrote.

Sounds like you are a real dance afficionado, and I would like to offer you a pair of tickets to see 5x World Ten Dance Champions, Alain Doucet and Anik Joicouer, when they come to the Philadelphia Festival Ballroom Championships to perform on Friday night April 13 at the Philadelphia Airport Marriott hotel.

If you decide to come, just email to me. Thank you writing nice things about my son. By the way, he looked good on Regis and Kelly, don’t you agree? Sandra
