Puttin’ on the Ritz

Sunday night was the snowy start of Center City Restaurant Week. We went with our good friends, Lila and Vince to the ‘Ritz Grill’ at Broad and Chestnut Sts. The Ritz is the Ritz, comfortable and mannered. It is housed in the old Girard bank building. We went early for our seven-forty five reservation and had a drink in the huge but welcoming lobby. Somehow martinis are always better here.
For dinner, a fixed price of thirty dollars, I had a hot and unusually rich, Leek and Potato soup, which was perfect on this cold night, followed by, juicy, tender, Short Ribs of Beef in a velvety brown reduction sauce, along with potato puree. My companions had Tuna Ceviche with watermelon and grapefruit, and for an entree Striped Bass. Deserts were fresh made Caramel ice cream, Chocolate ice cream, or Raspberry sorbet, or Chocolate cake. We loved it all.
Restaurant week is from Sunday, January 28 thru Friday, February 2. 107 restaurants are participating.
