Beau Django

Django-CD.jpgI actually went out last night, it started with a meeting with the Fairmount Arts Council discussing the (shameless plug…which will continue as the event gets closer..and since I am now a member of the council) upcoming Fairmount Arts Crawl which will take place April 30th. We met at London Grill to discuss the Crawl and art in the neighborhood. So long story short after a great meeting we needed to unwind with a drink. It just so happened that London is having music every Thursday and Saturday night this month and last night we were able to be completely entertained by Beau Django. I wasn’t even expecting music, but when they started playing I was mesmerized by their style.

Their name is a clever take off of Django Reinhardt, and as you might guess their music is an

“extensive repertoire focusing on the music of Django Reinhardt, Stephane Grappelli and The Hot Club of France. Their music is sweet upbeat Gypsy heat. “

I was blown away by how good they sounded. Everyone around me had a foot tapping or a head bobbing. I would highly recommend everyone seeing them live. I had a brief moment to talk with Jon Dichter, one of the two guitarists in the group that also includes a stand-up bass and violin. I found out that they have been only playing together for 1 year. It must be a testament to their individual playing ability that they could sound so polished after only one year together.

So 10 thumbs up from me, check em out!

Hey, thanks Ian for your remarks on Beau Django. Philadelphia seems to be embracing the cool sounds of Django Reinhardt & the Hot Club of France from the 1930’s. It’s been a blessing to be able to pass on the tradition to to hip seeking public. Jon Dichter (Beau Django)
