Sakura Sunday

maiko girlsThis past Sunday was Sakura Sunday, the main event in the annual Cherry Blossom Festival here in Philadelphia. The area around the Horticultural Center in Fairmount Park was packed with a remarkable turnout this year. The trees cooperated with their full blooms, providing a perfect backdrop for the day.Highlights included the drumming and dancing demonstrations on the main stage, formal tea ceremonies in the Horticultural Center, beautiful textiles for sale and plenty of free activities. true to the name, the Japanese American food court included a wide variety of foods from sushi to Texas beef and crab cakes.Despite ominous clouds, the weather held nicely making for a beautiful Sakura Sunday. If you missed it this time, definitely check it out next spring. Admission is completely free.
