Carnivale of the Dogs

splashing dog

Notes:     The Carnivale of the Dogs in Rittenhouse Square Park this weekend reminded me of a giant playgroup for dogs. Or maybe it was for their owners - I saw a red carpet (for the costume contest I missed) and dog portraits and a band - all things which seem to me like they would be more fun for the dog owners than for the dogs themselves. Interestingly, I didn’t see a dog run (did I miss it?). So the place for the dogs to play was, apparently, the fountain.

I caught this dog diving into the water by focusing my camera first on a floating tennis ball, and by the time I went to take the picture, he was already diving headfirst.

Carnivale of the Dogs

The 2nd Annual Carnivale of the Dogs festival is taking place tomorrow, September 9th from 10 am until 2 pm. Dog owners are encouraged to dress their dogs in festive costumes and bring them to Rittenhouse Square for a Costume Parade (with celebrity judges), free pet portraits and treats for both pets and people. If anyone goes and takes pictures, please upload them to our flickr group, because who doesn’t like a shot of a semi-humiliated dog?
