Trader Joe’s Question of the Day
I stopped into Trader Joe’s on my way home from work yesterday, because with three extra people in my apartment (my sister and her two friends) the food is going a whole lot faster, to grab some stuff for dinner. As I waited in line, the checker started talking to the guy in front me of me. He asked “In your opinion, what is the greatest Beatles album, and what is your favorite song from that album?” The man in front of me appeared to be lukewarm on the Beatles, as he hemmed and hawed, but only mumbled an answer as he was about to leave the line.
It was then my turn to check out. I stepped up to the counter, put my armload of groceries down and readied myself for the question. He asked me the same thing, and I smiled and responded, “This is a tough one for me, because as a former Beatles fanatic, I have a hard time narrowing it down to just one. My favorite album in Revolver, but my favorite song in Across the Universe, which is not on Revolver. So I’ve kind of broken your rules, I hope you don’t mind.” He looked at me wide-eyed for a minute, and then shouted, “Thank you! You are the first one to say Revolver, which I think is definitely one of their best albums. I also love Across the Universe. It was the song I always used to sing to myself when I was feeling sad.” While I felt that that might have been a little too much information from my Trader Joe’s checker, I was happy to hear that I had picked things he liked. With that, I took my bag of food and headed home, to make dinner with my sister. I love that shopping at TJ’s is never boring.
