U-Pick Fruit–Mission Accomplished

I realized this morning that while I queried the Metblog community for good places to go berry picking a while back, I never completed the story.

Two weeks ago, I headed out to New Jersey with my friend Seth, to pick some blueberries. It was getting to the end of the season, so there weren’t a ton of berries on the branches out at Mood’s Farm Market, but there were enough that we each were able to pick about five pounds of berries. It was sort of a hot day, but the blueberry bushes are planted up to the edge of a wooded area, so when it got to hot, we’d take a break and sit in the shade. It was nice to have an opportunity to take a break from the energy of the city and be outside.

Mood’s was a terrific place to do U-Pick. The prices were really good (the blueberries cost $1 a pound) and I bought an overflowing quart of “marked” nectarines for $2.25. Right now their website says that they do still have some blueberries on the bushes, as well as blackberries, apples, white grapes and yellow peaches. We are supposed to have beautiful weather this weekend, thinking about getting outside and picking some fruit doesn’t seem like a bad idea.
