Open Target

I love Target. I am aware their practices are no better than Wal-Mart in terms of compensation, conditions and sweatshop labor. It’s just so much nicer to shop in. Cleaner, brighter, wider aisles and irresistible seasonal sections. Fortunately for my bank account, there is no easy access to Target via Septa and I rarely have a car on hand. That said, I’ve been keeping an eye on the gigantic Target on City Ave, wondering when it would finally open. I passed by last Sunday and made a comment along the lines of “it looks ready enough, let us in.”

As it turns out, I was somewhat right, they are ready! The new Target location has a soft opening today with a grand opening scheduled for this Sunday. That’s 160,000 square feet of brand spankin’ new retail in an ideal location. Between the local Philadelphia and main line neighborhoods plus the influx of university students during the academic year, this Target is going to rake in some serious cash.

I just hope people shop with courtesy and respect. Remember how quickly the new Ikea displays became worn, broken and dirty looking? Let’s not do that again. Just in case, I hope to pay a visit early on while this Target is sparkling.

I actually drove by there today with the thought that I’d try to stop in (having read in the Inquirer that they were having a soft opening today), but they had the entrance to the parking lot blocked off and didn’t look very inviting to customers. So I kept on going, figuring I’ll get there sooner or later anyway.
