U-Pick Blueberries

Just about every summer for the last twenty years, I’ve gone blueberry picking on Sauvie Island, just outside of Portland, OR. I’m not going to get back to Portland this year during blueberry season, but I still want to go picking, as there’s nothing like the utter indulgent abundance of pounds of berries. However, I have no idea where to go in this area, since I’ve always gotten my fill of bluebs on the other side of the country.

So I’m turning to you, oh wise and helpful metblog readers. Where do you go picking within an hour of Philly? I’m open to farms in New Jersey as well as PA.

What a great Blueberry photo. I never picked blueberries. The place where we picked strawberries and apples in N.J. is now known as the Old Orchard Shopping Center.
I think PA and N.J. put out brochures for picking farms. Sure hope someone has some first hand knowledge and comments.

I usually go to Linvilla Orchards in the fall for apples and pumpkins, but they do have blueberries during summer. Their website says “pick your own” hours are 9 am – 6 pm everyday and blueberries are $2.49 per pound.

I think your best bet is NJ, although I’ve never actually picked there. Here’s a link to a pick your own website. It should come up to the page for South Jersey. Have fun! http://www.pickyourown.org/NJsw.htm

Highland Orchards, 1000 Marshallton-Thorndale Rd., West Chester, Pa. Blueberry piccking is going on right now, I was just there today. They have a u-pick-it for just about every kind of fruit….from Blackberries to Apples. Great place….great pies too!!
