Road Closings

Be aware as you move around the city today that a number of roads are closed for festivals and other activities. Broad Street is closed from Albert Eistein Hospital down to the Stadiums for the Broad Street Run (it should reopen by 10:30 or 11 am). Good job to all those who are running it! I did it two years ago, and it wasn’t the easiest thing I’ve done in my life.

Germantown Ave. is closed in Chestnut Hill for their annual Arts Festival. And the area around the Art Museum is closed for the MS Walk that Jeff mentioned below.

Broad Street Run? Never heard of it, growing up.
I used to BIKE Broad Street from about N Phila train station to Center City when I was in 6th grade. It was all Downhill, as I recall, heading south?
To this day, I can’t believe 1) My mother wanted me to do this; 2) I survived.

Not exactly the most scenic run, unless you are an urban planner? But maybe that’s the point, to highlight the plight of the city’s Great Street, and perhaps shame property owners into action?

I ran the Broad Street run yesterday and it showed me a side of Philadelphia I’d never seen. I’m a reluctant transplant from the West Coast and after two years still haven’t really warmed to the city…it’s always struck me as depressed and grumpy. But yesterday was a blast. I was so blown away by the bystanders who cheered us along the whole course, the comraderie of the run and its organizers, the general goodwill and spirits of the crowd…wow. It was fun and heartwarming and I can’t wait to do it again next year. Thanks, Philly.
