GET FLAGGED

Today, March 27th, the weather people are promising a magnificent Spring day. If you work or are near the Municipal Services Building at 16th and JFK Blvd. then make it a point to celebrate the birthday of Philadelphia’s Civic Flag. There will be a jazz band, a school chorus and other festive events. What better way to celebrate a beautiful day than to join together with fellow citizens in our great city, learn about our city flag, and support our flags motto, “Let Brotherly Love Continue”. The celebration is brought to you by The Partners for Civic Pride.

    Philadelphia 112 Flag Day
Partners For Civic Pride and the City of Philadelphia who partnered with us for the first
time celebrated the Philadelphia Flags 112th birthday. What a wonderful day was had by all who attended. The day started off when a donation of a super stretch Lincoln Navigatorfrom Sterling Limosine pulled ip to my home along with two Philadelphia Police escorts to take me to my first
pick-up. We arrived at Chapman Ford to pick up Kerry Petratos who was representing Micheal Chapman. Chapman Ford donated $1,500.00 for the first packet for the studends of The Kearny School. This packet contains material for the students to write to our wondelful women and men
who are serving in Iraq. Our next stop was to pick up my fellow board member Elaine Peden. Elaine all by herself got Hanna and William Penn honorary
citezenship. There are only six people in the history of The United States who have been given
this honor. Our next stop was picking up our honored soldier Tony Fusetti and his family. Tony just celebrated his 24th birthday this past weekend. He has served two tours of duty in Iraq and is being deployed again this July 5th.He told me this is his job and honor to serve. Our next stopwas to pick up Tonys Commander Major Washington family. He is in Ga. getting his troups
ready for deployment. We arrived to the wonderful sounds of music provided by the Luck Thompson’s Jazz Band. Thanks to board member Will Smith Sr.
The Philly Flag Lady dressed in her Phiily Pride Lady dress is an amazing woman. She has been an insparation to so many studends in the Philadelphia School system. She educates the childen about the history of the flag and their call to civic pride and duty with the biggest smile and songs for her heart. We have the only flag in the world that has the word LOVE on it. PHILADELPHIA MANETO, which means”Let Brotherly Love Continue”Rob Stoller and Leah Staffer who are board member gave up lifting speaches, along
with Will Smith Sr.Kerry Petratos of Chapman Ford,
City Council Juan Ramos,The Deputy City Representative Janis Pierce and the star of Philadelphia Civic Flag Day our soldier Tony Fusetti. The event opened up with the JR. ROTC Color Guard
from Frankford High School. It made me so proud to shake each of these Jr.ROTC members who wore their many ribbons and medals with pride and honor. The wonderful childen from the Kearny School
sang.We need more events like this one to honor the children who care to make a better life for themselves and our city. The last part was raising the new Philadelphia civic flag on the Municipal Services Building flagpole.Thank you my fellow citezens, and consider yourself FLAGGED. I am looking for sponsors and donations to help our children see a brighter day for the City Who Loves You Back. judykarff@comcast.net
