Kuala Lumpur (the newest MB city)

When I was in high school, one of my favorite books was a thing called A Town Like Alice by Nevil Shute. It was the story of a young English woman who is living in Kuala Lumpur as World War II is breaking out. The Japanese invade and take all the white people prisoner, marching them back and forth across the country because they don’t know what else to do with them. Many of the prisoners die, but our heroine lives, and while marching, meets a man from Australia who she falls in love with and many years later marries.

At this point you are probably asking yourself why I’m telling you this and the reason is this. Kuala Lumpur (or KL to the cool kids) is the newest Metroblogging city, and until this moment, I didn’t know anything more about them then what I had read in this book. But now I know that it is a city who gained it’s independence from Britain in 1957, is the only city in the world to contain an ancient forest and is currently celebrating the 200th anniversary of it’s royal police force.

We here in Philly are thrilled to welcome Kuala Lumpur to the Metroblogging family
