American Idol: Wow I’m Impressed

Kinda-sorta local girl, Antonella Barba didn’t flat out suck. That’s not to say she was good but she didn’t turn out a terrible performance. Maybe I am being a little too nice here but I didn’t think she had the worst performance of the night. I still think she is terrible and will hopefully go home tonight but if she sticks around this week I would not be too surprised or angered.

The rest of the ladies went down like this in order of my liking them. Melinda Doolittle once again knocked all the other girls down the stairs with her performance of Etta James’ ” W.O.M.A.N.” She’s also probably the most likeable person ever on the show which would normally disgust me but I just can’t help but love her. Lakisha Jones, another one that is super nice (and that I think is great, ughh….. what that hell is happening to me) comes in second this week for me with her performance of Whitney’s “I Have Nothing”. It’s not her best but its better than the rest. Third for me is Jordin Sparks who kicked off the show with a very good vocal performance of Pat Benatar’s “Heartbreaker”, she has a lot of work to do with her stage presence though because she was as entertaining as dirt. Fourth is Sabrina Sloan who looked beautiful and did a pretty good job with En Vogue’s “Don’t Let Go”. Fifth for me was Gina Glocksen’s terrible performance of Evanescence’s :Call Me When Your Sober”. For me Gina was the worst vocally of the night, she screamed through the entire song and for anyone who has ever listened to Evanescence Amy Lee does not scream through her songs regardless Gina, despite being the super bitch, added a much needed element to the show as she brought that rocker edge I like to see. Sixth for me was Stephanie Edwards who sang Chaka Khan’s “Sweet Thing”, which while not bad she sung it really well. The problem was I don’t remember her doing it. Antonella falls into seventh because unfortunately for Haley Scarnato she came off like she should be singing Saturday morning cartoon theme songs. I’m not even sure what the song was but it was just weird.

Should be going home: Antonella and Haley, could be going home if America decides to keep Antonella around again Haley and Stephanie or Sabrina.

A slight possible correction to my post. It seems that Melinda may not have sung Etta James ‘W.O.M.A.N.’ but Peggy Lee’s ‘I’m a Woman’. Sorry I’m getting conflicting reports and I don’t know one from the other.
