What’s going on tonight?

I forget where I heard of this band Transistor Rodeo and Mad Serenade, but I hear they’re playing at Milkboy Coffee in Ardmore tonight. They play a rootsy style of rock’n’roll conveniently called “Alt-Country” by the more creative members of the music press. Transistor Rodeo is a five piece outfit consisting of the standard vocal, 2 guitar, bass, drums format with the tasty addition of the violin. Their style has been compared to everyone from Tom Petty to Son Volt and almost never to Heavy D. I think TR&MS sounds more rock’n’roll than country. Their music kicks ass and I’d love to see them. Show’s $8 and begins at 7:30. 2 Lancaster Ave.

Reason I’m not going to check out TR&MS is because I’m going to see Adrienne Hamilton all the way up in Doylestown, at the Puck. At 8:30 (tickets $12) he’s opening for the Box Five Ensemble, featuring Mary Bichner. I caught maybe one or two of Ms. Hamilton’s songs at the Tin Angel a few weeks ago and owe her a real listen. The place is on Printer’s Alley in Doylestown if you happen to be in the area and want to go.
