iPod Assault

I first heard about the teacher at Germantown High School who was sent to the hospital due to injuries obtained as a result of a student assault during a news brief this morning on NPR’s Weekend Edition this morning. I was stunned that students would attack their teacher for enforcing the rules, but I realize that this is the way the world works now. When I was in high school (all of ten years ago) it would never have occurred to me even question the word of a teacher. It pains me that events like these happen in our schools.

He stole the kid’s iPod? What did he expect to happen? Why didn’t he just tell the kid to either put it away ot get out of class?

iPods aren’t allowed in Philadelphia schools. I believe the common practice is to confiscate it from the student and take it to the office. From there a parent is allowed to pick it up. So he wasn’t stealing it, he was simply enforcing the school rules.
