Frozen River

I’m switching things around and posting one of my own photos today. (And for tomorrow I’ve selected a great one from our Flickr pool.)

Yesterday I wandered down to the edge of the Schuylkill River at sunset to take some pictures. This is one of my favorites, of the Riverloop boat frozen in place. (When I have time I’ll try to post some more from yesterday to my Flickr photostream, and maybe one or two here next week.)

Frozen River

It’s certainly been cold lately, and I was none to pleased to wake up this morning and discover that somehow our thermostat had been set to “off”! Neither my husband nor I can fathom how this happened since neither of us remembers having done it ourselves (or can imagine why this would have seemed like a good idea).

Anyway, at least there’s an upside to the cold, which (to me) includes pretty dustings of snow and frozen water. (For some more crazy frozen water, check out these very cool icicles from odhusky, taken at Wissahickon Creek.) But maybe it’s just me. I tend not to feel cold when I have a camera in my hands. Without a camera, I am complaining just as bitterly about the cold as the next person.

I was at Trader Joe’s the other day and the guy who was ringing up my groceries started talking about how the river was frozen. He said that he’d been here for four years and it was the first time he’d seen it do that. He was mightily impressed, and I told him that I’d make an effort to get over and see it while it was frozen, because I couldn’t remember seeing it like that before either. I’ll try to get over there sometime tomorrow, before it starts warming up!
