Kerri-Lee Halkett Wants Your Vote
I’ll admit it, I have fancy dress balls a bit on the mind these days. Not only is the sesquicentennial Academy Ball happening tomorrow, I’ll be getting all dolled up for a certain exhibit opening in the near future.
So I couldn’t help taking particular notice of D-Mac’s* post on Philadelphia Will Do about how Fox-29 anchor Kerri-Lee Halkett has invited the Internet-surfing public to choose her dress for tomorrow night’s gala event.
(More after the jump.)
Firstly, I’m willing to bet that it isn’t really Kerri-Lee who offered this invitation. This reeks of some PR professional saying “Wouldn’t it be cool if….” and running the idea around the network halls. I’m hopeful that Kerri-Lee is a willing participant and wasn’t forced into it. Hopeful, but not 100% certain.
Still my mind boggles. We have been spending a lot of lunch hour time around these parts discussing the trials and tribulations of finding a formal gown that fits well, that looks good, and (most tricky) that makes you feel like you look good. For example, I would rather wear burlap than the strapless dress a colleague purchased. Another co-worker would never buy a dress that has a train like mine does, for fear of tripping down a flight of stairs.
Knowing how personal this decision can be, I can’t imagine turning that over to a public vote. Makes me break out in hives just thinking about it.
As far as the public vote goes, I don’t think I can top D-Mac’s response**:
I really hope this starts a trend of the viewers getting to choose with the anchors on TV are wearing. What color will Hurricane’s bow tie be? Will we make Gary Papa wear a clown suit? Would you like to see Larry Mendte do a whole broadcast wearing a suit made totally of bacon? The possibilities are endless.
All I have to add is this small thought.
The pink?!? REALLY?
* For the record: I [heart] DMac. If I ever grow up to be a real live journalist, instead of the fake amateur blogger I am today, I want me some wit and style like his.
** See note, above.
wow, ALL of those dresses are incredibly hideous. i went to the site intending to vote but i really can’t. they’re all too ugly.
I voted for the brown one. It felt like the best of the worst.
Yah, I went with the brown for much the same reason. Since I couldn’t see the current poll results without casting a vote, I was compelled to do so, in the name of journalism. Right? ;)
The gold one was especially unfortunate. Not just as a dress, but as the most ill-fitting of the bunch. With the great unveiling scheduled for tonight’s newscast, that doesn’t leave much (any?) time for alterations!
