The American Loft Residences, an eleven story mid-rise residential building with 38 condominium suites, is being built in Northern Liberties.

The design sounds really cool and I would love to see it in person: “The conceptual idea of the three interlocking L’s–each one in a different material–avoids repetition and differentiates the look and feel of the building. The in-between space allows for recessed glass planes–something of a glass “seam” which travels throughout the building. The seams allow for big terraces where you can easily seat friends for entertaining or dining. This effect gradually increases from the first floor to the penthouse, making the building more transparent as it extends upwards into the sky. As the L’s meet at the top, they create two penthouse lofts, each with grand terraces and great views. They resemble free-standing villas with an open layout with large glass walls that provide generous amounts of light.” (AmericanLOFT)

The goal (according to this website) is “to build an environmentally friendly and sophisticated loft condo residence tower while blending into the history and culture of the area”. For example, according to AmericanLOFT, the flooring will have “grass-crete” (concrete cells with grass growing through it). (There’s a picture, which I would link to if I could, but this is one of those fancy websites where you navigate by clicking on little colored squares until you happen to find what you were looking for.)

Condos start at start from the mid $200,000s and, according to the first website I linked to, almost two thirds are already sold out.
