Unreliable Mail Service in Northern Liberties?

After class tonight I went out with some folks. We wound up at the Great American Pub in Narberth (until I started at St. Joe’s, I had never been to Narberth. Grad school has turned out to be quite the education in the geography of the suburbs). Drinks were obtained, and much talking happened, as most of hadn’t seen each other in nearly a month. At one point Caitlin started talking about how her friend in Northern Liberties wasn’t getting mail service, at which point I had to stop and ask her to repeat herself.

How would it be possible that someone in a neighborhood of Philadelphia wouldn’t receive their mail? I thought we had the most reliable mail service in the world! Well, the story goes that he ordered something overnight four days ago via USPS and has yet to receive it. And apparently this is not the first time something like this has happened to him.

So, for all of you out in NoLibs, is there really a problem with the mail? Or does this particular individual just have terrible luck?

when i lived in queen village we had terrible mail problems. at least 3 of my netflix shipments were “lost” and our service would mysteriously stop for a week at a time. every time i called the usps it would mysteriously start again with a huge pile of mail.

up in chestnut hill we have regular delivery but it is very slow. we’ll receive bills after the due date, birthday cards a full week after they’re sent and such.

from what i’ve heard from postal employees their new facility down in the airport area is not good. many are unhappy, hate the new facility, the long commute and so forth. a mass of disgruntled employees likely does not make for timely mail for phila.
