A Dirty Little Pearl

The Pearl Theater has finally opened on North Broad Street. Three days later, a teenager is shot at the front entrance. So much for North Broad giving us Temple lovers a piece of the pie that Penn’s campus has ate on for so long. I think that bringing a theater to North Broad was a wonderful idea. They have been in development talks since I was a student.

To actually see North Philly thrive is a beautiful thing. I just don’t know if the neighborhood will be able to support it. Penn isn’t in the best area either, its located in the part of town us Philadelphians call “The Bottom”. It’s a heavily crime populated- but they seem to manage. I do think that they can do it, but its going to take some time and police effort. I frequent North Philadelphia on the daily basis, hell some of my family lives in that area. I’m really interested to see what the weekend will hold.
