Fringe Confusion

So, the Fringe Festival has begun in the City of Philadelphia. In my time in this city I have only attended one Fringe event, and that was an opera performed at Eastern State Penitentiary (I love that damned place). Oh, scratch that, I also attended a play by Brat Productions at the Khyber (combining events with places that I regularly enjoy is a brilliant idea). I have to confess that, though I love the idea of the Fringe Festival, I am totally overwhelmed by it. Each season I review the booklet of events thoroughly and have no idea what to select. So many innovative ideas, so many talents, how do I narrow my selections? I have yet to find an answer. If you have a tried and true method of selecting events, that’s good information to know–drop a line in the comments and share the wealth.

There are a bunch of daily online reviews and blogging going on about various shows. I recommend http://www.citypaper.net/fringe, http://philadelphiaweekly.com/fringe06 and http://www.phillyist.com for pretty comprehensive reports and picks. From what I’ve seen so far, I personally recommend Brat’s EYE-95 and Subcircle’s Still Unknown. And I’m really looking forward to House, Ps & Qs, Amnesia Curiosa, and Lie to Me. When in doubt, ask the folks at the box office.
