Shots fired Tuesday evening

Talking to a friend last night over google chat, he mentioned that Tuesday night there were gunshots in his backyard. He was standing in his kitchen making a salad when he heard the shots and hit the deck. The police found two guns under his bedroom window and said it was an attempted robbery. He mentioned that recently there has also be a peeping Tom hanging out in the adjacent house’s backyard.

He lives in close in West Philly, and when he was finished telling me this story, he said, “you’re a good assessor of situations, do you think this should make me think about moving?” He has a nice ground floor one-bedroom apartment for a decent price near Penn. I said I thought he should take a careful look at whether he feels safe in him home still, but that if it was me, I’d probably stay put.

What advice would you give him?

i’d say stay, but being on the ground floor sucks. if possible, look for a place on higher ground. when i lived in queen village i heard gunshots about once a month, and being on the ground floor was extra-scary.

try to get some bars on the downstair windows. I know it doesn’t look appealing but they won’t be able to get in.
