Pointless Fest tidbit

Walking home tonight, my normal route took me straight past the Unitarian Church, where the first of three days of R5 Productions’ Pointless Fest is getting ready to get underway. There are lots of punked out, pierced and studded kids hanging along the sidewalk, and as I passed one group, I overheard this,

(said with an excited lilt to a friend) Hey, dude! You hear about Brad?!

(the friend replied in a monotone) Yeah, he’s dead

The tone of voice the guy used to ask the question seemed so incongruous with the news that I almost stopped so that I could listen to the rest of their conversation, to find out what had happened to Brad, and why the guy was so jazzed to be sharing the news.

ah ha–so that’s probably what that gothed & be-studded crew hanging out in front of Wawa on 20th St. was around for yesterday.

I had no idea that the concert was cancelled, and I don’t know why they called it off. I’m sorry to hear that, because I know a lot of people were looking forward to it.

I did. The show was cancelled. I walked outside the church to chaos. There were helicopters, and fucking pigs came Friday the 2nd night of the show, and beat and maced so many kids. They ran over a dog with one of their cars, they beat a some dog to death, and the dog didn’t do anything but bark because they were beating and macing it’s owner who happend to be a pregnant woman. It was fucking insane. I don’t know the exact reason to why all this happend.

i walked by also, and the “real” reason why all hell broke loose was due to a bunch of transients with no respect for our city or the shows that r5 put on at the church had to be a bunch of assholes. i can understand if “punk rock is my life man”, i’ve seen it all before for the past 20 years, but it’s always the few bad apples that cause the problems. they want to cause a defiance, and start a problem, then quickly blame it on the police/organizers/bouncers who are here to actually help out and prevent a problem.

i am said to say that it has really made me ashamed of the scene that was such a large part of my life.

way to go and fuck it up for all of us.
