Joel Siegel is a Dick

Sorry for the vulgarity but that is how I feel. I don’t really care about the guy’s reviews to any extent. But he not only walked out of the FREE press screening for ‘Clerks II’ but he also made a scene in the process. You can read about it here at Smith’s own site My Boring Ass Life Today on the Opie and Anthony show Kevin Smith confronted the boob. OK, now before I go any further I am a Kevin Smith fan so this may come off as overly biased but I assure you it is not (take that as you may). Joel Siegel is well within his rights to walk out of any film he wishes but as a movie critic he should know proper etiquette for film watching. I personally have never walked out of a film (I even sat through all of Uwe Boll’s terrible ‘Alone In The Dark’) but I can understand people that do. BUT as a critic your job is to watch a movie from start to finish and give your opinion of the film. Walking out 40 minutes into a film, regardless of if there was a donkey show or not, is a disgrace. Joel Siegel is a disgrace to movie critics everywhere. Kevin, Philly still supports you (or at least I do) and keep filming movies in that communist country you call home (OK so you live in LA now but I mean NJ).

Did you see the rating notes in today’s NYTimes review? “Clerks II is rated R (Under 17 requires accompany parent or adult guardian). It has abundant obscenity and crude sexual humor. I can’t even talk about the donkey.” I laughed so hard I just about broke my rib-cage…

The review was quite positive, by the way.

Overall Clerks II is holding a respectable 73% on RottenTomatoes.com. I don’t care if Siegel liked the film or not but the guy is a professional film critic, he gets paid to watch movies. He should have sat in his seat and finished it out and if he didn’t like it go on GMA and bash the hell out of it but don’t interupt a screening which you are getting paid to be at and take others out of the film.
