Who is the City’s Sports MVP?
I heard Glen Macnow** talking about this the other night with his callers on his 610 WIP program, wondering out loud exactly who is Philadelphia’s Sports Scene MVP. The general consensus, quite strangely, is that there is no real consensus. So I’m going to try to arrive at a conclusion as an official Metblog stance. And I’m going to do that with a single-bracket tournament.

I have selected 16 top athletes (four from each of the city’s major sports teams), and have taken the liberty of bracketing them. Please vote for one of each of the following to move on. You can leave your votes in the comments section in the bottom. Whoever has the most votes when I log back in tomorrow morning will be the winner and move on to the next round:
Bracket One - Philadelphia Flyers Bracket
Peter Forsberg vs. Joni Pitkanen
Simon Gagne vs. Keith Primeau
Bracket Two - Philadelphia 76ers Bracket
Allen Iverson vs. Samuel Dalembert

Chris Webber vs. Andre Iguodala

Bracket Three - Philadelphia Eagles Bracket
Donovan McNabb vs. Jeremiah Trotter

Brian Westbrook vs. David Akers

Bracket Four - Philadelphia Phillies Bracket
Bobby Abreu vs. Chase Utley

Pat Burrell vs. Ryan Howard

Here are my official votes on record:
Joni Pitkonen
Simon Gagne
Allen Iverson
Andre Iguodala
Donovan McNabb
Brian Westbrook
Chase Utley
Ryan Howard
Flyers:
Pitkanen’s a great defenseman and my favorite Flyer but I have to go with Forsberg here. When Forsberg is in the lineup the Flyers just play better. Pitkanen’s just not at that level yat
Simon Gagne over Primeau. An argument could be made for Primeau at the end of the 2004 playoffs but Gagne had a career year this year and he played even better when Forsberg was his centerman.
Sixers:
I don’t watch basketball all that much so other than Iverson I don’t know who these guys are (OK I am lying I do know who Chris Weber is). Iverson gets my vote, I abstain from the other bracket.
Eagles:
I hate the Eagles. Ole #5 is a chicken. McChicken has the ability to be the Eagles best player but he is a whiny bitch. So I vote Jeremiah Trotter, at least that guy can hit.
Westbrook is the size of a dwarf but he is much more valuable than a kicker. Akers is a great kicker but he is still a kicker. I go Westbrook.
Phillies:
Bobby Abreu is a choke artist. Chase Utley is one of the top second basemen in all of baseball. Hmm… tough decision here…. I think I will go with Bobb…. umm no. Chase Utley all the way here.
The strikeout kings. For some reason I like Burrell ,I can’t explain it but I like the guy. But Ryan Howard has more homeruns and strikeouts than Burrell so Howard gets my vote.
