12th Philadelphia International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival

Hooray! Today marks the opening of the 2006 Film Festival! 141 movies from 23 countries in 13 days? Only a film festival this fabulous could accomplish it.

The best flicks that LGBT cinema has to offer begins tonight with the new teen comedy Another Gay Movie at the Prince Music Theater. Saturday’s screening is already sold out, so if you want to see it, tonight’s the night! Tickets are sold only at the venue for day-off screenings, so get to the Prince for yours before they sell out as well.

Other films include romantic comedies, seductive thrillers, documentaries, slasher flicks, and musicals. There are two awesome free events as well: John Waters’ classic Cry-Baby at Penn’s Landing on July 20th; and four retro films at the Jamaican Jerk Hut on July 14th, 15th, 21st, and 22nd.

Besides the movies, the festival also holds several ceremonies, parties, panels and events, like Queer Kinky Quizzo at Valanni, bowling and billiards at the Lucky Strike and a Chicks and Flicks party at Pure.

Most movies are $9.50 each, although there are other packs and passes available if you plan on taking in more than just one or two films.

I plan on seeing Coffee Date next Friday (missing the first night of the XPN music festival in the process) and probably a few other films as well. Post your must-see’s in the comments below!
