I Didn’t Even Know My Street Was Big Enough for Three Cars

Thinking I’d be the only one making my way into work this morning, I was surprised when I opened my front door to see not one, not two, but three city vehicles on my street before 8 A.M. My street is super tiny; i.e. you can barely get your car down, and don’t even think about parking. The truck, car and van were idling in the middle, blocking not only the street but also the cross street—which is basically just a small alley behind some people’s fenced back yards where we park our cars. “Excuse me,” I said to the gentlemen, “but I need to get my car out and go to work.” One of them looked my way and answered “Well, we can’t move, I need these vehicles. Can’t you just back out down that way?” as he pointed down the alley. Pft. I agreed to back out as long as someone could direct me. I scraped my passenger-side rearview mirror on the fences and almost drove up someone’s front step, but I eventually made it out. The one who helped me get out waved and smiled and wished me a good day.
