Black Sheep, Black Sheep, have you any
So last Wednesday I stopped in at the Black Sheep at 17th and Latimer. I met up with my buddies Lauren and Bill and Emily so we could discuss a set of gigs I wanna book around town. Of course none of that got done, instead opting for the hanging-out-and-chilling-at-a-pub deal.
It’s a two-floor pub with a smoke-free dining area on the second floor, a bonus among those who don’t like the cigarette smell when you leave the bar.
So you might be wondering what we were served while we sat around exchanging music CDs and discussing local Philly venues like the Tin Angel and Fergie’s, right? You might be wondering what Your Secret Identity and Almost Awake thought of the place. You just might be. Well . . .
Lauren got the Guinness Battered Fish and Chips, her favorite at the Black Sheep Pub and the reason she chose this establishment to meet. I, of course, had a burger. For the life of me I can’t remember what Bill and Emily had gotten, but I think Bill also got the fish & chips, and Emily got a burger.
Bill’s beer of choice was the Young’s Double Chocolate Stout and mine was a boring Lager. I only had one drink! AA wouldn’t be proud of me, but at least I’m trying, right?
I’m no food critic, by any stretch of the definition, so I’ll just say that it’s a cool place to hang out if you’re in the area, and their food is good. I mean, Lauren goes there all the time for them Guinness Battered Fish and Chips. I’d even suggest this place for the next Philly Metroblogger meetup for its intimate second floor with smoke-free dining. But like many of the pubs I’ve been to in Philly, it’s just one of three variations, and as a current suburbanite, the Standard Tap still holds a place in my stomach.
