2006 NHL Draft

The NHL draft takes place tonight 6PM ET in Vancouver. Our very own Philadelphia Flyers have nine picks in the seven round draft; including 4 in the first two rounds. The Flyers will have the option of switching their fourth round pick with Phoenix fourth round pick depending upon what they want due to the Peter Nedved trade on January 20, 2006. As many as 12 US born players could be drafted in the first round which would beat last year’s record of eight. The consensus number one seems to be Minnesota born defenseman Erik Johnson whom some are already comparing to Chris Pronger. The consensus number two seems to be the brother of Carolina’s 2005 / 2006 break out star Eric Staal, Jordan Staal. The Flyers don’t pick until number 22 but then have three more picks in the next 33. I’ll have an update on the Flyers picks tomorrow.
