Friday Night Cartoons

I promised more updates once I got the skinny on events tied into TFI’s Animation exhibit.

Well, how about an Animation Film Festival?

The Franklin Institute joins together with the Philadelphia Film Society to host the summer-long Animation Film Festival. Join us Friday nights this summer for special film presentations from 8-10PM in Stearns Auditorium, followed each week by a Star Lounge After-Party in the Fels Planetarium.

6/16/06 - An Evening with animator Bill Plympton
6/23/06 - Disney Retrospective with Gene London
6/30/06 - Superman & Superheroes with Kathy O’Connell, followed by Superhero Quizzo
7/7/06 - Tribute to Winsor McCay, with 2006 Academy Award winner John Canemaker
7/14/06 - Computer Animation with Paul Kanyuk from Pixar, followed by an 80s Arcade Festival

Additional dates to be announced.

I will not be there tonight, as I am, alas, swamped with debt reduction activities.

I have heard, however, that Plympton is such a prolific “scribbler” that it is entirely likely he will produce enough drawings during tonight’s event to allow every audience member to leave with an original Plympton drawing. (Note key word: likely. We think it’s very possible, but don’t want to make any false promises.)
