In this great city of neighborhoods…

Why I write on this here MetBlog:

  • Because I can’t be the only person who is utterly creeped out by getting to the Orange Line via the outside of the Wannamaker building.
  • Because I collect word of dive bars that don’t card. (Favorites include the Ministry of Information and the New Wave, but I’ve heard rumor of many others.)
  • Because I scour the national headlines for a reference to Philly, just so I can make fun of the story.
  • Because someone around here has to give two shits about the Phillies.
  • Because the 76ers suck.
  • Because my partner has a hard Philly accent. (Water comes out “wooder”, and bagel comes out “beg-elle”.)
  • Because I think Philly beats out Chicago on cool points.
  • Because I know Philly beats out NYC.
  • Because I get to do an occasional series called “New Jersey or Communist Country? You make the call!”
  • Because that series title came from another MetBlogger sometime during his sixth vodka and cranberry.
  • Because the other people who write here are damn cool.
  • Because the MetBlog is great during my vast stretches of unemployment. (Seriously, yo. You want something to do during those long, boring days in between surfing Craig’s List and checking Monster.com? MetBlog. Not kidding. It feels good to make fun of stupid people and rant about ludicrous news all day. Feels like you’re actually accomplishing something.)
  • Because the 76ers still suck.
  • Because I live near the major tourist attractions so I need venting space before I rip into somebody’s jugular.
  • Because this fucking city has major tourist attractions.
  • Because I can’t be the only person who hates those stupid Ride the Ducks!! tours.
  • Because I have friends who come up with things like getting a fleet of El Caminos, painting them purple, filling the back with people in pirate garb, and following those stupid Ride the Ducks!! tours around whilst shouting things like “YARR! We be from Trenton!”.
  • Because it is neat to say that I contribute to a group blog.
  • Because I’ve been here since the beginning, and I can’t imagine blogging about Philly anywhere else.
  • Because the Philadelphia community on LJ is full of snarky 12 year olds and bad music promoters.
  • Because it’s damn cool. Just damn cool.
  • Because really…the 76ers suck.
  • Because sometimes, Philly teams win things. And those times are cool.
  • Because I like being able to post about who else heard fireworks and get four comments telling me of four possible events that may have had fireworks.

So please, won’t you please, be my neighbor?
