Sorry, Uncle Walt

“Camden was originally an accident, but I shall never be sorry I was left over in Camden. It has brought me blessed returns.”
I’m sorry, Camden. I didn’t mean to lead you on. I had only the best intentions.
When I filled out the first online form for Bloggers’ Weekend, I was looking ahead towards a weekend where Matt would be out of town and I would be left entirely to my own devices. Enjoying the Camden waterfront sounded like something fun to keep me occupied.
When the event organizers asked for a confirmation email, and I sent mine, my weekend was fuller than it had been for step one. After all, I’d gotten myself tickets for all the baseball games. But, as I looked ahead from one weekend into the next, I still had all of Saturday without plans. Maybe I wouldn’t see eveything, but there’d be plenty of time to enjoy a daytrip.
Now, I’ve already posted about what happened next. By the time, I got the email telling me I was one of the 200, my schedule had filled up even further. I’d become incredibly fascinated by the notion of the Kimmel Center’s Pay to Play event, and then I got an email reminding me that Saturday afternoon was the Bloggers’ meetup.
And yet I made optimistic plans, based on the slivers of free time that remained on my Sturday and Sunday mornings.
I didn’t mean to lead you on, Camden. I lied to myself as much as I did to you.
I set my alarm both mornings—Saturday and Sunday—preparing to bound out of bed at 7:30 to walk the dog, shower and primp and preen and catch PATCO to get across the Delaware. And both mornings, when that bell rang at 7:30, I groaned with exhaustion. “I don’t believe in waking to alarms on weekend mornings,” I muttered to myself. “I’ll close my eyes for a few minutes. It’ll be fine.”
You know how this story ends, don’t you, Camden? Little Miss Sherri then rolled over and slept for hours more, waking with enough time to clean up for the afternoon schedule, but without enough time for a morning event. So I missed it all.
I’m sorry, Camden. I’ll do my own solo blogger’s weekend this summer, buying my own admission to your attractions and everything. I promise. Some time soon.
But not this weekend. I have plans on a different waterfront.
