Philly in Shorts

Last Wednesday, the Philadelphia Short Filmmakers League hosted a program of shorts that are applying to the Cannes Film Festival in France. To aid in the fundraising, they had champagne and candy in exchange for a $10 voluntary donation.

There were three shorts that I really liked: Cutout, about a strained Italian father-son relationship; If Occurence, about a soured friendship between two twenty-something females; and Shopping in the Afterlife, about an elderly woman who gets her way by winning the empathy of a disenchanted 30-something from Southie. Shopping in the Afterlife got the best reception from the audience.

They were all shot in Philadelphia by Philly filmmakers, so if you get the chance to see them, you might even recognize some locations.
