A Day Without Immigrants
My mom was born on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, but her parents weren’t. They weren’t even born in the States.
I come from immigrants, although I have the privilege of coming from immigrants that are barely considered white enough to be acceptable. That is my privilege, not my pride.
As best a white person can do, I support the choices made for the boycott today. In solidarity, as you will.
Fellow MetBlogger Jay V is against the protests and boycotts today. I’m standing for them.
Where are you?

did they come her legally? :)
Her mom did; her dad didn’t.
Part of the protests was for legal immigrants to stand in solidarity with the illegal ones, which is why it has come to be called A Day Without Immigrants.
my mom and her family came here as LEGAL immigrants. they did what was asked of them and they gladly and wilfully obeyed the law. i’m agains the protest and boycotts of today because these are lawbreakers.
I agree with Ed, and good for his parents for doing things the right way. It would have been easy for them to do it the wrong way.
Yes, these people are trying to make their lives better. Bottom line is, and I’ve said this before, I can rob a bank, or imbezzle money from my company and my life will be a heck of a lot better. But, I don’t have that option. It is illegal. So are they.
