Activity: 20th and Market

I was walking down 20th street to work this morning, and 20th street was blocked off between Chestnut and Market Sts. A number of cop cars (mixture of transit and city police) were assembled at the corner of 20th and Market, and it looked to my uneducated an blinded-by-sun-glare eyes that Market Street might have been cleared and blocked off from 20th all the way down to City Hall.

Anyone know what’s up?

UPDATE, 9:55: Two co-workers who were caught in the gridlock say the radio reported a suspicious package at 20th and Market. No further word as yet, and I haven’t found any mention out on the web.

I got caught in it too, trying to get to work. There were bomb sniffing dogs when I was out there, and I heard them say something about the Red Cross building at the corner of 19th and Market. All of Market Street was shut down.

Huh. Since my coworkers heard about a different building thatn you did, Marisa, I’m still wondering what the actual story is….
