Smoke-free Philadelphia
Saturday night, I went out with friends, and we managed to hit three bars over the course of as many hours. Our second stop was The Black Sheep, which was filled with people, noise and smoke when we got there around 11 pm. The waitress who came to our table kept having to duck down and turn away as she took our order, to avoid the streams of smoke coming from the table behind us. She apologetically explained that she was covering someone’s shift and that she doesn’t normally work weekend evenings, as she has a hard time with the smoke.
Tomorrow (April 5th) there will be a rally at Dilworth Plaza, adjacent to City Hall, in support of the proposed smoking ban (called the Clean Indoor Air Workers Protection Law) that it currently being considered by City Council. If you are in the area between the hours of 12 noon and 1:30 pm tomorrow, and you support this ban, they’d love for you to stop by.
