Inky and Daily News sold!

The big news around Philadelphia today is that Knight-Ridder, the parent company of the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Daily News has been sold to the McClatchy Company. Apparently, they are a modestly sized newspaper company, who is fond of smaller, single-newspaper cities. Neither of which are we. Since the Philly papers don’t fit their business model, they are putting us up for sale again. Which means the future of our news is still very much up in the air. One possible bright spot is that the President of the “[n]ewspaper Guild of Greater Philadelphia, the largest union at The Inquirer and Daily News, said the union had been working with a private investor in hopes of buying the papers from Knight Ridder’s new owner.” Local ownership of our local papers.
