My California Dream

As many of you know, it’s been a lifelong dream of mine to see and touch the Pacific Ocean. Last year, I flew all the way out to San Francisco with plans to drive down the coast to stay in Los Angeles with my girlfriend’s friends who happen to work for Dr. Phil.

Jeannette and I arrived in San Fran and were set to spend spent a cold, windy day there. Of course, we were wearing shorts and t-shirts because…California, right? A lot of you have heard me use generic terms such as “family emergency” to describe why this was our only day in San Fran.

My sister is sick. Very sick. She was pregnant with her daughter Julie last summer and I got a phone call that the doctors didn’t expect her to make it through the pregnancy. They also said they would be delivering the baby at the end of that week, even though it was nowhere near time.

I got this news while walking on the Golden Gate Bridge.

We flew home. We never looked back.

Taylor went on to deliver baby Julie on her own at UPenn Hospital not too long afterward. Julie is healthy and fine. Taylor is recovering, thankfully.

And so now I think it is time once again. I am planning to return to California in June of this year. I will — with any luck — get to touch the Pacific Ocean.

I will.

At least I hope.
