Brind’Amour Sinks Flyers

Former Flyer Rod Brind’Amour sent the Flyers to their third straight loss tonight and Peter Forsberg missed more time with another groin injury. After two periods of a very defensive battle, the third period was a different game altogether with five goals scored and a lot of up and down hockey. The first two periods of the game was defensive mastery by the Flyers and Jeff Carter netted a beautiful goal with about seven minutes left in the second.
Then the third period began and the Flyers took a 2-0 lead. 21 seconds later the game changed to an all out shootout as Matt Cullen scored for the Hurricanes. From then on out the game was up and down hockey and the Flyers once again blew a lead in the third period. With just under four minutes left in the game Erik Cole got behind the Flyers defense and went in alone on Antero Niitymaki. Overtime was scoreless and then Brind’Amour won the game in the shootout. Simon Gagne had a chance to win the game in the shootout but for missed one on one for the third time in the game.
