CT Hockey Rebirth?
Although the CT Hockey Association has yet to officially end it’s fourth and possibly final season, there was a kind of rebirth for the league last night. Although not entitled CT Hockey and not run by any of the same people, the Northeast Roller Hockey League was invaded last night by some of the remnants of the CT Hockey Association. Two of the four games last night at The Arena featured members of the CTHA. Four of the nine teams in the league have CTHA members. While only one team made the transition whole, Team Hemi, another team, the Sabres, is almost a full squad of CTHA players.
The Sabres won the first game of the NERHL season, defeating O’Brian’s (whom have former CT Hockey player Jim Gill on their roster) 9-6. Allan Small, Chris Repasy, Dan McDowell, Tony Neisser and Joe Konopka starred for the Sabres. Goaltender Mike Brutschea shook off some early problems and played a scoreless third period helping the Sabres to the win. The third game of the night featured the lone team to make a full transition from CT Hockey, Team Hemi facing off against the NERHL’s reigning champions the Cho’d Clan (whom have former CT Hockey player Brian “Beaker” Naughton on their roster). Questions surrounded Hemi goaltender Sean Cipressi, concerning how he would transition from a ball league to a puck league. Cipressi looked comfortable and made some excellent saves helping his team go on to a 5-4 victory.
Former Hemi player, Rob Neilson was in the stands for the Hemi-Cho’d Clan game and looked to be trying to enter his own team into the NERHL which would bring the total number of teams to 10. It should be an interesting and exciting season as CT Hockey invades the NERHL.
