SEPTA strikes (a person)

In her last years, my grandmother lost all ability to gauge how fast traffic was moving along Chestnut Street. We would stand there, waiting to cross over from the entrance of her apartment building to Little Pete’s on the other side of the street. I would hold her arm, trying to keep her from heading out into traffic while a SEPTA bus roared past our noses. When she died in 2002, there was a portion of me that was relieved, I no longer had to keep her from getting maimed or killed by the city’s public transit agency.

IWell, my fears have come true and it happened on Walnut Street instead of Chestnut. According to the Daily Pennsylvanian, an unknown individual has been struck down by a SEPTA bus. It happened Tuesday afternoon at around 2:25 pm at 40th and Walnut. Thankfully, the DP reported that “According to Penn Police officials, the pedestrian was hospitalized with minor injuries.”
