Hawks beat Temple by 2
The last time these two teams played it resembled something more along the lines of Ultimate Fighting Championship than basketball as Tempe coach Dick Chaney sent out players to hurt St. Joe’s players. This time things were much different. There were no altercations and St Joe’s won the game with a basket with 2.2 seconds left. The Hawks improved to 6-5 while Temple dropped to 6-6 on the year.
While both coaches thought it was a well played game, Chaney thought that the incident in last year’s contest had a direct influence on the officials for this game. Stating, “Six goddamn calls at the end of the game went right to them (because of) just the thought of somebody coming close to somebody and starting a problem.”
