A City Moment

I got back into town early Saturday evening, just in time to eat something, shower and get dressed for New Year’s Eve with my friends. A combination of sleep deprivation, jet lag and poor judgement led me to drink a whole lot more than I intended, and I ended up with a two-day hangover. I missed the Mummers entirely and only barely made it out of my apartment on January 2nd to do a little food shopping and have an impromptu dinner with some friends.

Back at work yesterday, I realized I’d made the transition from Portland, OR back to Philly without a hitch until I was walking home in the dark up Market Street. I paused to take a look at my surroundings and to breathe in the icy air. I ran into my local produce market four minutes before they closed for a few bananas, oranges and apples. A stop at the Chinese place across the street for a quart of egg drop soup (for my still tender stomach). It’s good to be back in the city.
