Flyers get a Little bit of History and Lose

A couple things happened last night that were historic. None of them were very good for the Flyers. After Flyers defenseman Derian Hatcher tied the game at three with just two minutes left in regulation the Flyers went to overtime. In overtime Flyers goaltender Antero Niitymaki made some excellent saves, including a spectacular one on Nashville forward Paul Kariya with just under a minute to go. When it was all said and done the Flyers went to their first ever shoot-out but this time Paul Kariya sunk them.

Nashville goalie Tomas Vokoun stopped both Flyers attempts (by Mike Knuble and Simon Gagne) and Antero Niitymaki was beaten twice, the final one by Paul Kariya which sealed the deal. The game was back and forth all night with Nashville having to come from behind twice and the Flyers once. Mike Knuble got the Flyers on the board first with a power play goal but 20 seconds later Paul Kariya tied it back up. Mike Richards then regained the lead for the Flyers but Nashville fought back and scored twice more resulting in a Flyers comeback in the final minutes of regulation.
