Comcast Price increase

Damn, when I was coming to the conclusion that my cable bill is way too high Comcast announce that they were raising their rates next year by an average of 6%! First PGW, then PECO, and now Comcast. Citing “higher programming costs” as the reason for rate increases, and because they state that they are offering us more with services such as videos on demand. Now I don’t know about the rest of you, but I didn’t ask for that. I think it’s BS to charge us more because they are offering us more that we didn’t request.

I like the idea that I have been hearing about lately of paying for the services you want. If you want 18 QVC channels and 24/7 Sermons then you can choose those channels. I think I would feel better about paying what I do if I chose those channels, but since I only watch a handful of stations, being fed that their programming costs are higher makes me mad since I don’t want all the channels or all the services. Maybe if we could choose the channels it would lower their programming costs because they would see that we don’t need 800 channels, and we don’t watch 800 channels. Whatever the case the Comcast monopoly pisses me of, and unfortunatly I am now used to this pay for TV stuff….so it’s my own doing.

The report I heard said that most cable companies will be raising their rates. It’s just that Comcast is the nation’s largest cable provider and it is also raising the rates the highest. My bill should raise about $4.50 or so. I’m not happy about it but I will pay it.

As for the buy the channels you want idea. I like it. I mean really I have like 900 channels with Comcast Digital HD Cable. My wife and I watch maybe, and this is being highly generous, about 100 of those channels. There are channels I get that I have never even turned on let alone sat down and watched a show on. It would be sweet if we could get some sort of package like that.

I was upset the other day when I realized Animal Planet and IFC were missing from my cable lineup, then I heard about the rate hike and almost cried. Not because the extra $4-6 bucks is going to kill me, but because I’m paying more and getting less. That plan you’ve got there is looking mighty fine right about now.
