Wagner Trashes Phils
Billy Wagner officially moved to New York yesterday and then quickly turned around and stuck his nose up at us Phillies fans. Wagner questioned the Phillies commitment to winning a championship and feels that the team is more interested at being competitive than actually winning anything.
Wagner claims that he would probably still be with the Phillies if they had offered him the three year $24 million dollar contract he wanted back in June. Instead the Phillies allowed themselves to get into a bidding war for the star closer and eventually lost him to their division rivals the New York Mets. Sticking point, an extra year. Wagner signed a four year $43 million contract with the Mets. The Phillies were prepared to offer more money per year than the Mets but not the fourth year.
