Ryan Howard, NL Rookie of the Year

Ryan Howard!

Hey look! The Phils have another player worth his snuff! One Mr. Ryan Howard, who took over first base for Jim Thome after an injury, has snagged himself an award! When you think about it, he didn’t even have a very good season because he didn’t get to play a full season; he had an awesome half season, because that’s what he played.

He was a major improvement on Thome, pulling out a .288 batting average and drove in 63 runs in 88 games and 312 at-bats, including 11 homers and 27 RBIs in September/October, while the Phillies were battling Houston in the National League Wild Card race. He’s the fourth Phillies player to win the honor, and the first since Scott Rolen in 1997.

If you’d like more info, there is a good write-up here.
