Quake news

First, to catch up, check out Google News to make sure you know what’s going on. (Major earthquake with mudslides and thunderstorms in India and Pakistan.)

Then, consider help. Yes, six weeks ago (SIX WEEKS! That long?), we had Katrina. Yes, we are still reeling. But the deathtoll on this? Higher. The magnitude? Bigger. The coverage in the US? Smaller. The country with the deepest pockets? The US. Us. The folks reading this blog.

To get a better feel for this situation, check out the Lahore MetBlog and the Karachi MetBlog.

To be honest, I’m not prepared to tell you where to send money or of groups that are working in the area because I have no idea. I don’t know who will swoop to the rescue. Red Cross? Probably. M

The affected countries were India, the largest democracy in the world, and Pakistan, the Muslim country that has taken a controversial stand with America in the ill-defined war against terror. I’m not sure if India’s asked for help yet, but Pakistan has. Helping out, as required, would not only be humanitarian, but also strategically wise.
