World Cafe Live
So, I was remiss in my concert announcing recently. I forget to tell everyone that the incomparable Eric Hutchinson was playing upstairs at the World Cafe Live. I conveniently scheduled the Philly Unitarian Young Adult happy hour at WCL tonight, because I wanted to see him again (I saw him for the first time at the Tin Angel and became instantly obsessed. I wrote about it here). He’s a great performer and I’m pretty darn certain that someday, there will be girls all over the country, and possibly world who will be hearting him right along with me. He played some new stuff, which will soon be available on a new cd called “Don’t Believe My Hype” as well as stuff from the abbreviated disc I have, called “That Could Have Gone Better.”
The people I brought with me (okay, most the girls I brought with me) instantly understood his appeal and became fans in about 30 seconds. They had a lot more guts than I did, and went up to him as soon as he finished his set, and started chatting. Evidently I got a little credit as the one who introduced them to his music, because there was a moment when they all looked my direction and started waving. They came back with autographed cds and a tee-shirt (of course the autography my friend Jen got was almost identical to the one he put on my cd a month and a half ago. I feel slightly less special). I thought it was over, but half an hour later, Eric came over to our table, to say thanks for coming as well as a special thanks for me for bringing people to his show. It was a kick, because now, someday, when he’s famous and playing stadiums (or at least the Mann), I’ll be able to say that I met him and chatted, once a long time ago.
